The Holden 355 is not a factory engine. It is the 308 V8 bored and stroked to 355 cubic inches (5.8 litres). The usual recipe is a 3.480 inch stroke crank in a 4.030 inch bore. The 308 is a carburetted pushrod OHV V8, built 1969 to 1985. These parts are filed under Commodore VB to VL and VN to VS. We hold 9 parts for this build.

Stroker crankshaft and pistons

A Scat crankshaft with a 3.480 inch stroke and 2.125 inch pins is listed for the Holden 308 and Chevrolet 355. TIK piston sets are stocked in flat top and D-bowl versions for the 355 stroker. Flat tops run more compression than the D-bowl, so pick by the heads and fuel you will run.

Main and conrod bearings

ACL main and conrod bearing sets in standard and Race Series grades. One main set is ground for 0.001 inch extra clearance. The Holden V8 runs a timing chain, not a belt. All are catalogued across the Holden V8 family. That is the 253 at 4.2 litres, the 308 at 5.0 and the injected 304 from the VN. Measure the journals before you order. The extra clearance set is for race builds. A street Holden 355 on a standard grind wants the standard set.

Rings and the rest of the Holden 355 list

An NPR ring set is listed for the Holden 308 and 355 and also fits the 304 and LS2. About two thirds of this page is also under the 308 so read the fitment line on each part.
