Jeep Diesel

Jeep Diesel Performance Tuning & Servicing

Jeep’s diesel range in Australia is split across two very different platforms, and getting the best out of each one takes a workshop that understands both. The Grand Cherokee WK2 runs the 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 rated at 184kW and 570Nm, while the JL Wrangler Rubicon carries the 2.2-litre MultiJet II four-cylinder making 147kW and 450Nm. Both pair their engines with the ZF 8-speed automatic and both rely on a modern emissions stack — EGR and a diesel particulate filter (DPF), with the Wrangler 2.2 adding an AdBlue/SCR system. That combination delivers strong torque and refinement from the factory, but it also brings a specific set of service and tuning considerations that generic operators routinely get wrong.

At Willy’s Workshop we tune and service these engines in-house at our Oxley (Brisbane) and Warana (Sunshine Coast) sites. Every Jeep tune is developed on our own platform, written to the factory ECU and confirmed on the dyno — never a flashed off-the-shelf file. The EcoDiesel in particular has a well-documented history around its emissions hardware and bottom-end quality control, so we approach each vehicle with the engine’s real-world weaknesses in mind rather than chasing headline numbers. The result is a calibration that sharpens throttle response, smooths the 8-speed’s shift behaviour and lifts midrange torque while keeping the powertrain inside safe limits.

Whether you tow with a Grand Cherokee, run a Wrangler as a daily and a weekend tourer, or just want your Jeep diesel serviced by people who actually know the engine, we cover the full picture — diagnostics, emissions-system health, scheduled servicing and custom tuning under one roof.

Engines We Tune

Jeep diesel engines we tune

3.0L EcoDiesel V6 — Grand Cherokee WK2
184 kW / 570 Nm
Italian-built turbo V6 with strong towing torque and the ZF 8-speed; watch the oil cooler, EGR cooler and emissions hardware as the key service points.
2.2L MultiJet II 4-cyl — Wrangler JL Rubicon
147 kW / 450 Nm
Refined common-rail four with EGR plus AdBlue/SCR; prone to DPF and EGR carbon fouling on city-driven cars, so emissions-system health is critical.
Tuning & Servicing

Why choose Willy’s for your Jeep

Performance Tuning

Custom, dyno-verified Jeep diesel tuning written to your factory ECU — never a generic flash.

  • Custom ECU calibration developed in-house for the 3.0 EcoDiesel V6 and 2.2 MultiJet — tuned on the dyno for your specific vehicle, not a one-size-fits-all file.
  • Sharper throttle response, stronger midrange torque and improved ZF 8-speed shift behaviour for better towing and overtaking confidence.
  • Calibrations kept within safe limits for the EcoDiesel’s known bottom-end and oil-temperature sensitivities — power gains balanced against engine longevity, especially under load.
  • Before-and-after dyno data supplied so you can see exactly what your Jeep gained, with the original factory file retained as a backup.

Servicing & Repair

Full diesel servicing and emissions diagnostics for Grand Cherokee and Wrangler at both QLD workshops.

  • Scheduled logbook-style servicing for Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel and Wrangler MultiJet, including correct diesel oil specification and intervals to protect the engine and oil cooler.
  • EGR and DPF diagnostics, cleaning and management — the most common fault path on these engines, particularly on city-driven vehicles that rarely complete a clean regen cycle.
  • AdBlue/SCR system checks, sensor diagnosis and fault clearing on the Wrangler 2.2 to keep it compliant and out of limp mode.
  • Inspection of known EcoDiesel wear points — oil cooler, EGR cooler and carbon build-up — so issues are caught before they become major engine work.

FAQ

Jeep diesel FAQs

How much does a Jeep diesel tune cost and is it worth it?
Pricing depends on the engine and the scope of work, so we quote each Jeep individually after assessing the vehicle. The value comes from a custom, dyno-verified calibration written to your factory ECU — sharper response, stronger midrange and smoother shifts that you feel every day, particularly when towing. Contact either workshop for a quote on your Grand Cherokee or Wrangler.
Will tuning my Jeep void the factory warranty?
Any modification to engine calibration can affect a manufacturer warranty claim, and that’s worth weighing up if your Jeep is still in the factory warranty period. We always retain your original ECU file so the vehicle can be returned to factory specification if required. We’ll talk you through the implications honestly before any work begins.
Can you delete the DPF, EGR or AdBlue system, and is it legal?
Removing or disabling emissions equipment such as the DPF, EGR or AdBlue/SCR system is not legal for road-registered vehicles in Australia, and we don’t offer it for road cars. What we do offer is proper diagnosis, cleaning and management of these systems — addressing the carbon build-up and regen problems at the source so your Jeep runs cleanly and reliably while staying compliant.
What performance gains can I expect from a Jeep diesel tune?
Gains vary by engine, condition and the goals we set for your vehicle, so we don’t quote fixed numbers up front. Both the 3.0 EcoDiesel and the 2.2 MultiJet respond well to a custom tune, especially through the midrange where towing and everyday driveability live. You’ll receive before-and-after dyno figures showing exactly what your Jeep achieved.
Which Jeep diesel engines and years do you work on?
We work on the Grand Cherokee WK2 with the 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 (184kW/570Nm) and the JL Wrangler Rubicon with the 2.2-litre MultiJet II four-cylinder (147kW/450Nm), both running the ZF 8-speed auto. If you have an earlier or different Jeep diesel, get in touch and we’ll confirm what we can do for it.
How do I book and how long does the work take?
Book by contacting our Oxley (Brisbane) or Warana (Sunshine Coast) workshop directly. A standard service is typically completed within the day, while custom tuning usually requires the vehicle for a full day so it can be properly road-tested and dyno-verified. We’ll confirm timing when you book based on your Jeep and the work involved.
