The Holden 304 is the fuel injected 5.0 litre V8 fitted to the Commodore VN-VS, Calais and Statesman from 1988. It carried on in the VS ute and VT Series I to 1999. It is a pushrod OHV V8 with two valves per cylinder, naturally aspirated with multipoint injection. Displacement is 4,987cc from a 101.6mm bore and a 76.2mm stroke. We hold 16 parts for the 304.
Extractors and header flanges
Conversion extractors with 1 3/4in primaries are listed for fitting the 304 V8 into an HQ to WB or an LH and LX Torana. A bare EFI header flange is here too. The Holden 304 differs from the carburetted 308 by stroke alone: 4,987cc against 5,044cc on the same bore.
304 pistons, rings and bearings
Piston sets, ring sets, main and conrod bearing sets and a head stud kit for the VN head are listed. Rings and bearings cross over to the 308 because bore and journals are shared, but pistons do not: the shorter stroke needs its own piston, so order the set listed for the Holden 304, not a 308 one.
Water pump, sump and gaskets
A water pump, a high capacity sump, rocker cover gaskets and a lower gasket set are listed. The Holden 304 runs a timing chain, not a belt.
The rest of our Holden 304 stock
A harmonic balancer shared across the Holden V8 range is also here. About half of this page also appears under the 308, so check each fitment line.
