The Mazda R2 is a 2.2 litre four cylinder diesel, SOHC with 8 valves and naturally aspirated, with a mechanical injection pump. Mazda built it from 1984 to 1996 for B-Series utes and E-Series vans. It is filed here under the BT-50 series, against the Bravo B2500 and UN 1998 to 2006 range. A later DOHC 16 valve common rail turbo diesel shares the R2 code.We stock 20 parts for the Mazda R2.
R2 pistons and rings
Pistons are the biggest group: TIK and NVP sets for the common rail engine in standard and 0.5mm oversize, and NVP piston and ring sets for the SOHC 8 valve in standard and 1mm oversize. The two R2 engines are different builds that share a code, so say which you have before a piston set is pulled: belt driven 8 valve, or common rail 16 valve.
R2 head gaskets and gasket sets
An NVP head gasket for the SOHC engine, KP full gasket sets for both versions and a KP lower gasket set.
R2 timing chain, timing belt and bearings
The SOHC R2 drives its camshaft by timing belt. The common rail R2 uses a timing chain, and NVP chain sets for it are listed here. NDC conrod bearing sets cover the R2 and the RF, the 2.0 litre diesel from the same family.
