The Holden 149 is the 149 cubic inch, 2.4 litre red motor: an inline six with pushrod overhead valves, carburetted and naturally aspirated. It was the base engine under the 2.9 litre 179 in the EH-HD of 1963 to 1966, with a 3.375 inch bore to the 179’s 3.5625. Most parts are shared with the HQ-WB Kingswood and VB-VL Commodore sixes. 9 parts for it are listed here.
Holden 149 bearings
ACL and NDC main and conrod bearing sets, including an ACL Race conrod set at 0.5mm undersize and an NDC main set at 0.75mm undersize. All are boxed across the family from the 138 to the 202. The undersize matters more than the capacity in the title.
Timing gears
The Holden 149 is gear driven, crank gear to cam gear, with no timing chain and no belt. NVP straight cut and alloy timing gear sets are listed for the 149 through to the 202, EH-HZ and VB-VK. A straight cut steel set whines at idle, which suits a race car and not an EH sedan: the alloy set is the quiet road choice.
Gaskets
A Permaseal full gasket set for the 149, 161, 179 and 186. Also a side plate gasket for the pushrod cover on all the red sixes.
The rest of our Holden 149 stock
Nothing else is listed for the Red 149ci. Every part above is also boxed for the 2.85 litre 173, 3.0 litre 186 or 3.3 litre 202.
