Nissan A12 Engine Parts

The Nissan A12 is a 1.2 litre inline four of 1,171cc. It is pushrod OHV with eight valves, a cast iron block and an alloy head. The A12 is naturally aspirated and carburetted, built from 1970 into the 1990s. It powered the Datsun 1200 B110 sedan, coupe and ute, then the B120 ute. It also went into the Sunny, including the 120Y.The A12 list runs to 8 parts.

Timing chain set and tensioner

The A12 runs a timing chain, not a belt. An NVP timing chain set with crank and cam gears is listed, along with an OSK chain tensioner. Both are shared with the A10, A14 and A15.

Head gasket and VRS gasket set

A Permaseal head gasket and an NVP VRS gasket set. The head gasket here is the 73mm bore one for the A10, A12 and A13. The A14 and A15 run a 76mm bore and take a different gasket. Check what is actually in the car before ordering: plenty of 1200s have had a 1400 or 1500 dropped in.

A12 pistons and bearings

A piston set for the A12, plus NDC main, conrod and camshaft bearing sets. The bearing sets are shared across the A-series family. That means the A10 at 1.0 litre, the A13 at 1.3 and the A14 and A15 at 1.4 and 1.5.
