Is tuning a SsangYong Musso or Rexton worth it, and what does it cost?
For owners who tow or carry loads, yes. The factory calibration is conservative, and a custom tune typically delivers its biggest benefit as a fuller, more usable spread of mid-range torque rather than a single peak number. Cost depends on the model, transmission and whether any EGR, DPF or intake work is needed first, so we provide a firm quote after assessing your vehicle. Contact our Oxley or Warana workshop for a quote.
Will a tune void my SsangYong factory warranty?
SsangYong’s Australian new-car warranty is generous, and any ECU change can be a consideration while a vehicle is still covered. We will talk you through this honestly before any work, including what is reversible, so you can make an informed decision. Many of our customers tune outside the warranty period or accept the trade-off knowingly. We never make that call for you.
Can you fix DPF, EGR and AdBlue problems, and is removing them legal?
We diagnose and properly repair DPF, EGR and (on SCR-equipped models) AdBlue faults, cleaning, forced regeneration, or replacement, which is the right path for these engines and keeps them road-legal. Emissions equipment is required on registered road vehicles in Australia, so we restore these systems to correct operation rather than deleting them. Fixing the underlying cause, usually carbon and short-trip driving, is what actually solves it long term.
What performance gains can I expect from the 2.2 e-XDi220?
The most noticeable improvement is in throttle response and mid-range pulling power, which is exactly where these engines feel softest from the factory, especially under load or when towing. Because every tune is dyno-verified on your own vehicle, we report real measured figures rather than promised numbers. Results vary with the model, transmission and the engine’s mechanical condition.
Which SsangYong engines and model years do you work on?
We focus on the 2.2-litre e-XDi220 turbo-diesel used across the modern Musso ute and Rexton wagon. That covers the Musso in six-speed manual and Aisin six-speed automatic form (133kW, 400-420Nm), and the Rexton in both the earlier 133kW/420Nm and later 149kW/441Nm eight-speed-auto versions. We also handle servicing and repair on older SsangYong diesels. Tell us your build year and we will confirm exactly what we can do.
How do I book, and how long does the work take?
Call or contact Willy’s Workshop at either Oxley (Brisbane) or Warana (Sunshine Coast) to book. A custom tune is usually a one-day job including dyno time, while servicing and repair times depend on the work, EGR or DPF cleaning and timing chain jobs take longer than a standard service. We will give you a clear time estimate when you book.
