The Isuzu G161 is a 1.6 litre petrol inline four: 1,584 cc, SOHC, eight valves, carburetted and naturally aspirated. It has an 82 mm bore and 75 mm stroke. The G161 runs a timing chain, not a belt. Isuzu built it through the 1970s and 1980s. It went into the Holden Gemini, including the Gemini TE, and the Rodeo KB 1.6 petrol. Our shelves hold 9 parts for the G161.
G161 timing chain, gears and guides
A timing chain for the G161 and G161Z, plus cam and crank timing gears shared with the 1.8 G180 and 2.0 G200. Two chain guides: a No.1 guide for the G161Z and one for the G161 and G180. Change the gears with the chain: a new chain on a hooked crank gear whips and chews the new guide.
G161 ring sets
A TP ring set and an ACL set at 0.5 mm oversize. The G161 bore is 82 mm against 84 mm on the G180, so G180 rings do not fit.
G161 main and conrod bearings
An NDC main bearing set shared with the G180Z and G200Z, and an NDC copper lead conrod set shared with the G180. Both cross because the 1.8 and 2.0 share the 1.6’s journal sizes.
G161 and G161Z parts across the family
The G161Z is the later revision of the same 1,584 cc block, and its G161Z page holds the parts listed only under that code. Most of this page crosses the G-series, so read each fitment line.
