The Mazda E3 is a 1.3 litre inline four, SOHC with 8 valves, carburetted and naturally aspirated, on a 77mm bore and 69.6mm stroke. Mazda built it from 1980 to 1989 for the 323 BD/BF (the Familia in Japan), and it also went into the Ford Laser twins. Its 1.5 litre sibling, the E5, shares the bore with a longer stroke. We carry 17 parts for it.

Timing chain gears, guide and tensioner

The E3 runs a timing chain, not a belt. Crankshaft timing gears, two camshaft timing gears (one of them single row), a chain guide and a chain tensioner make up the largest group, most of them listed for the E3 and E5 together.

Pistons, ring sets and bearings

JCC piston sets are listed at 1mm oversize, with TP and chrome ring sets at the same oversize. Ring sets cross between the E3 and E5 because both run the 77mm bore, but the piston set is listed for the E3 only, so do not order pistons off an E5 listing. NDC main and conrod bearing sets also list the older TC 1.5 and UC 1.6 engines, which is why the Bravo / B-Series ute shows up on this page.

Head gasket and VRS set

A head gasket and a KP VRS gasket set are listed for the E3 and E5.

Other E3 parts we stock

Thrust washers and an oil pump timing gear are the remaining items. Nothing here fits the 626, which never ran the E3.
