Parts for the Toyota 4Y: Head Gaskets and More

The Toyota 4Y is a 2.2 litre petrol inline four, pushrod OHV with eight valves, naturally aspirated and carburettor fed. It is the largest of the Y series, above the 1.6 litre 1Y, the 1.8 litre 2Y and the 2.0 litre 3Y. It ran in the Hiace, HiLux and Dyna, and in Toyota forklifts, from the early 1980s.We keep 28 parts for the Toyota 4Y here.

4Y head gaskets and gasket sets

Head gaskets from KP and Permaseal, plus full and lower gasket sets. Lower sets are usually boxed for the whole family, so the label may read 1Y, 2Y, 3Y and 4Y.

4Y timing chain sets

The 4Y drives its camshaft with a timing chain, not a belt. Complete chain sets are stocked.

4Y pistons, rings and bearings

Dish top piston sets, ring sets, camshaft bearing sets and thrust washer sets, with main and conrod bearings. Because the Y series shares so many part numbers the box will often list all four engines, and the 4Y is the only 2.2 among them, so check the bore before ordering rings. Ring sets are listed for the 4Y and the 4YEC, which is the same 2.2 litre engine with electronically controlled fuelling.
