The BMW M50 is a 2.0 and 2.5 litre straight six petrol engine with twin overhead camshafts and twenty four valves. The M50 is naturally aspirated and multi point injected. Build ran from 1990 to 1996, with VANOS cam timing arriving on the M50TU in 1992. It went into the E36 320i and 325i, and into the E34 525i.We carry 7 parts for the M50.
Head gaskets and VRS sets
An Athena head gasket is listed at 84.5mm bore in 2mm thickness with a Cooper ring, and a FAI VRS set covers the 24 valve head. That gasket is cut oversize against the standard 84mm M50B25 bore, so measure your block first.
Upper timing chain sets
Two upper chain sets are listed without gears. The M50 uses a timing chain, not a belt, so there is no belt interval to keep track of. Listen for rattle on a cold start before you decide the guides are still good.
Head bolts, bearings and other M50 parts
Two head bolt sets and a main bearing set are stocked. M50 head bolts stretch and are not reusable, so order a set with the gasket.
