The Mazda UC is a 1.4 litre petrol inline four, 1,415cc from a 77mm bore and 76mm stroke, with a single overhead cam and eight valves, carburetted and naturally aspirated. It is the 1400 engine of the 323 and Familia FA4 from 1977 to 1980, filed here under Bravo / B-Series. The UC uses a timing chain, not a belt.Our Mazda UC stock runs to 14 parts.
UC timing chain, gears and guides
Crankshaft and camshaft timing gears, a 44 link single row number two chain, a chain damper and a chain guide, most of them boxed across the PC, TB, TC and UC. The TC is the 1.3 litre on the same 76mm stroke with a 73mm bore, so its chain parts cross over and its pistons do not.
UC bearings and thrust washers
NDC main and conrod bearing sets, an ACL conrod set in 0.25mm undersize and NDC thrust washers, all listed for the E3 and E5 as well. Measure the crank journals before choosing standard or undersize.
UC pistons and rings
A JCC piston set and a TP ring set, the ring set boxed for the Honda EL too, so the Honda name on the box is right.
