Suzuki M16A Engine Parts

The Suzuki M16A is a 1.6 litre inline-4 with a DOHC 16 valve head and multi point fuel injection. The M16A is naturally aspirated and was built from about 2001 to 2018. Here it covers the Grand Vitara JB416 1.6 and the SX4. The Swift Sport ZC31S and ZC32S carry it too. The M16A runs a timing chain, not a belt.Our shelves hold 11 parts for the M16A.

Timing chain, tensioner and chain sets

Four timing items: an NVP chain set, a single row chain, a genuine Suzuki chain and a tensioner. The genuine chain also fits the 2.0 litre J20A and 2.4 litre J24B. The single row chain and the NVP set cross-list to the 1.3 litre M13A and 1.5 litre M15A instead.

Main and conrod bearings and thrust washers

An ACL Race main bearing set and a conrod bearing set cover the M15A, M16A and 1.8 litre M18A. The M series locates the crank with loose thrust washers rather than a flanged main bearing, hence the separate NDC and TDC washer sets. Measure crank end float before deciding if bearings alone will do.

Pistons and rear main seal

The TIK piston set is 0.5 mm oversize only, so it needs a bore to 78.5 mm. The genuine rear main seal is shared with the J20A, J20B and J24B.
