NPC Performance Clutches by vehicle
Who is NPC Performance Clutches?
NPC Performance Clutches is a Brisbane clutch and flywheel manufacturer, family owned and operated since 2005 and based at Mansfield. They run their own CNC shop producing Australian made flywheels, including one of the country’s largest ranges of dual-mass-to-solid conversion flywheels, lightweight billet steel flywheels and conversion flywheels. Clutch components come from OE-market manufacturers, then get modified and uprated for the load the customer actually puts through them. We are a Brisbane workshop too: NPC manufacture on the southside, we fit their gear at Oxley and Warana, and a warranty or fitment question goes to a local manufacturer rather than an overseas distributor.
Choosing the right NPC clutch
Three things decide which kit you want: how much torque it has to hold, what friction material does the holding, and how heavy you are willing to let the pedal get. They trade against each other.
Heavy Duty organic sits closest to a factory pedal and suits stock to lightly tuned vehicles and light towing. Super Heavy Duty organic is the usual pick for a tuned diesel that tows regularly, holding meaningfully more while keeping street manners. Extra Heavy Duty steps up again for high-torque builds that still want to be driveable. Cushion button and button kits take the torque ceiling higher again with a firmer, sharper take-up, for hard-use and competition builds.
Across our NPC range organic is the most common by a distance, with cushion button and button covering the higher-torque end. Many kits come in more than one pedal weighting, shown on the product as factory pedal feel, firm pedal feel or light pedal, so you can hold more torque without automatically committing to a heavy clutch in traffic.
If you are unsure, start with the load rather than the power figure: a ute that tows a van every second weekend is a different job to the same ute making the same power unladen.
Dual mass flywheel conversions
Plenty of modern diesel utes and 4WDs left the factory with a dual mass flywheel. They are quiet when healthy, expensive when not, and they do not enjoy raised torque. NPC’s conversion flywheels replace the dual mass unit with a solid billet flywheel and a matched clutch, which is why most packages here are sold as a clutch and flywheel set rather than a clutch alone. Converting is a decision, not just a part: a solid flywheel transmits more driveline noise and gear rattle than a healthy dual mass unit, and in exchange you get a serviceable, resurfaceable flywheel that holds considerably more torque and will not fail as a sealed assembly. On a tuned or towing vehicle it is usually the right call.
NPC by vehicle
Our NPC range covers Nissan and Toyota most deeply, followed by Holden, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Ford and Isuzu. NPC also build conversion clutches for engine swaps, and we list a number of them: if you are putting an engine behind a gearbox it did not come with, that is a conversation worth having before you buy rather than after.
NPC Performance Clutches FAQs
Is NPC an Australian brand?
Yes. NPC Performance Clutches is family owned and operated in Brisbane, established in 2005, and manufactures its flywheels in-house on its own CNC equipment.
Do I need to replace the flywheel as well as the clutch?
Often, yes. If your vehicle runs a dual mass flywheel, or the existing flywheel is heat-checked, scored or below machining limits, it needs replacing or resurfacing. Most NPC packages are sold as a matched clutch and flywheel set for exactly this reason, and we will tell you which applies to your vehicle before you buy.
Will a heavy duty clutch make the pedal unbearable in traffic?
Not necessarily. Higher clamp does mean a heavier pedal, but NPC offer several kits in different pedal weightings, listed as factory pedal feel, firm pedal feel or light pedal. If the vehicle is a daily driver, tell us and we will steer you to the lightest option that still holds your torque.
Which NPC clutch do I need for towing?
For regular towing on a tuned diesel, a Super Heavy Duty organic kit is the usual starting point: it holds meaningfully more than a factory clutch while keeping street manners. Send us your vehicle, engine, tune state and what you tow and we will match it properly.
Can you fit it, or is this supply only?
Both. We supply Australia-wide, and we fit clutches in our own workshops at Oxley in Brisbane and Warana on the Sunshine Coast.
How do I know it fits my vehicle?
Send your rego or VIN. Clutch and flywheel fitment depends on engine, gearbox and build date, and a spline count or flywheel bolt pattern one step out will not go in. We confirm it manually before you buy.
