Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series Tuning & Diesel Servicing

The Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series (FJA300) replaced the long-serving 200 with an all-new 3.3-litre F33A-FTV twin-turbo V6 diesel producing 227kW and 700Nm, backed by a 10-speed automatic. It is a genuinely capable touring and towing platform, rated to 3,500kg braked, but the move to a compact ‘hot-vee’ V6 wrapped in a full modern emissions suite (DPF, EGR and SCR/AdBlue) brings a different set of considerations to the bulletproof reputation of older LandCruisers.

At Willy’s Workshop we work on the 300 Series every week across both our Oxley (Brisbane) and Warana (Sunshine Coast) locations. Whether you tow a van up the Bruce Highway, run remote tracks, or simply want sharper throttle response and better fuel economy, we tune the factory ECU in-house and verify every result on the dyno rather than relying on generic off-the-shelf files.

We also keep a close eye on the known weak points of this engine, including reports of high oil consumption, DPF regeneration issues tied to injector and emissions health, and heat-related concerns inherent to the hot-vee layout. Our approach is to optimise the vehicle sensibly, protect the driveline you are relying on, and keep it running reliably for the long haul.

Why choose Willy’s for your Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series

Performance Tuning

Custom, dyno-verified ECU tuning developed in-house for the F33A-FTV V6 diesel.

  • Smoother, stronger mid-range torque from the twin-turbo V6 for confident towing to the 3,500kg braked limit and easier overtaking when loaded.
  • Improved throttle response and drivability paired with sensible fuel-economy gains on the highway, without pushing the driveline past safe limits.
  • Calibration tailored to your setup, including larger tyres, accessories and touring loads, with exhaust gas temperatures and safety margins monitored throughout.

FAQ

Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series diesel FAQs

How much does tuning a LandCruiser 300 Series cost, and is it worth it?
Pricing depends on whether you want a tune alone or a tune combined with supporting hardware, so we quote each 300 Series after discussing how you use the vehicle. For owners who tow heavy, run larger tyres or cover long highway distances, a properly developed custom tune typically delivers worthwhile gains in drivability, towing confidence and economy. Get a quote from our Oxley or Warana workshop and we will give you an honest assessment for your setup.
Will tuning my 300 Series void my Toyota warranty?
Modifications can affect aspects of a manufacturer warranty, so it is an important conversation to have before you book. We will talk you through what is involved, what is reversible, and how it relates to your situation. Many owners tune outside the factory warranty period or accept the trade-off knowingly, and we are upfront so you can make an informed decision.
What about the DPF, EGR and AdBlue system, and is removing them legal?
The 300 Series runs a full modern emissions suite (DPF, EGR and SCR/AdBlue), and tampering with emissions equipment on a road-registered vehicle is not legal in Australia. We focus on keeping these systems working correctly through proper diagnostics, regeneration support and carbon management, which is the reliable long-term approach rather than deletion.
What performance gains can I expect from a 300 Series tune?
Gains vary with the vehicle, its condition and any supporting modifications, so we do not quote a fixed figure before testing. What we promise is a dyno-verified result tailored to your 300 Series, with the focus on usable mid-range torque, sharper response and sensible economy rather than chasing a headline number that the driveline and emissions hardware cannot safely sustain.
Which engines and model years do you tune?
We tune the diesel 300 Series fitted with the 3.3-litre F33A-FTV twin-turbo V6 (227kW/700Nm) and 10-speed automatic, covering the FJA300 from its 2021/2022 launch through current builds. If you are unsure of your exact variant, give us a call and we will confirm what suits your vehicle.
How do I book, and how long does it take?
You can book a service or tune at either our Oxley (Brisbane) or Warana (Sunshine Coast) workshop. A custom dyno tune is generally a full-day job because we develop and verify the maps on the dyno, while routine servicing is usually completed within the day. Contact us to arrange a time that suits and we will confirm the schedule.
