ACL bearings, in the standard range and the ACL Race series, make up most of this page: main, conrod and camshaft bearing sets for engine rebuilds, plus some ring and piston sets. Most are for Holden V6 and V8 engines and the Ford six and V8. Diesel sets include the Toyota 1HZ and 1HD-T, the L series and the 1KZ and 1KD, and Race bearings for the Nissan TD42. Browse every maker under bearings.

What the bearing size means

A bearing size is not a quality grade. It describes how far the crank journal was ground under standard, so a crank ground 0.25 mm under takes 0.25 bearings and a crank that only needed a clean-up takes standard. Mains and conrods are measured separately and can need different sizes on the same crank. The bearing and piston sizes page explains the terms and what the machine shop will give you.

Standard or ACL Race

Standard ACL sets are the replacement for a stock rebuild. The Race series is made for engines working harder than standard, such as a boosted LS or a modified Barra, and some Race sets are listed with an extra 0.001 inch of oil clearance or with a coating. Extra clearance is something the engine builder specifies, so only order it when your machinist has asked for it. For a stock diesel the standard set is normally the right choice, though Race sets are listed for engines such as the TD42 and 1KD.

The rest of the bottom end

A bottom end rebuild usually takes thrust washers, rings and a gasket set as well as bearings. If the pistons are coming out, check the bore size at the same time: ACL ring and piston sets come in oversizes for some engines, and more are under pistons. For bearings on engines ACL does not cover, try NDC or TDC, and for everything in one box see engine rebuild kits.

ACL bearing FAQs

Can I order bearings before the crank is measured?

Yes. Place the order and send the machine shop measurements afterwards; a photo of the machinist's job docket by email is the quickest way. Nothing ships until the sizes are confirmed with you, because the size decides which bearings go in the box.

What comes in an ACL bearing set?

One engine's worth, as the box lists it. The 1HZ and 1HD-T main set has 7 main bearings and starts at $95.00, depending on the size. The TD42 Race conrod set has 6 conrod bearings, and the 3.8 Ecotec cam set has two large and two small cam bearings.

What warranty comes with ACL bearings?

Parts we supply carry a 12-month warranty against defects, from the date of purchase or installation, whichever is later, subject to the manufacturer's terms and fair wear and tear. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply on top. Clause 7.1 of our Terms and Conditions has the wording.

Need ACL bearings to suit your crank?
Send the engine code and the machine shop's main and conrod sizes. We will match the ACL set, standard or Race, before it ships.
