What Custom Lithium is for

This is the range for running a fridge, lights, an inverter and charging gear off your vehicle for days at a time without flattening the battery that starts it. Lithium holds usable voltage far deeper into its capacity than lead acid and weighs a fraction as much for the same usable power, which is why touring builds have moved to it.

We stock the batteries, vehicle-specific dual battery kits, trays and mounts, DC-DC chargers and monitoring, so you can buy the whole system or the one part you are missing.

Vehicle-specific kits

The dual battery kits here are built for particular vehicles rather than sold as a universal box of parts, with coverage including Hilux N80, LandCruiser 79 Series in single and dual cab, Ford Ranger, Navara NP300, D-Max and Jeep Gladiator.

That matters more than it sounds. A vehicle-specific kit comes with a tray that bolts to existing mounting points and leads cut to length, which is the difference between an afternoon and a weekend of fabricating. Tell us your vehicle and we will confirm the fit before you order.

How much capacity do you actually need?

Work it out from draw, not from a number that sounds generous. A typical 12V fridge pulls somewhere around 30 to 60 amp hours a day depending on ambient temperature and how often it is opened, and lights, a diesel heater and device charging add to that. Slim batteries here run from around 100Ah up to 310Ah.

Then decide how many days you need to be independent of a charge source, and how you will put the charge back: a DC-DC charger while driving, or solar when parked. Most people under-size the charging rather than the battery.

You cannot just swap lithium in

A lithium battery needs a charging profile suited to it. Connecting one straight to an alternator or an old lead-acid charger will either not charge it properly or will shorten its life, which is why a DC-DC charger is part of a correct install rather than an optional extra.

Mounting and protection matter too, which is what the trays and vehicle-specific kits solve. If you are replacing an existing lead-acid setup, send us a photo of what is there now and we will tell you what carries over and what does not.

Lithium battery FAQs

Is lithium worth it over AGM or lead acid?

For touring, generally yes. You get far more usable capacity from the same rated amp hours because you can discharge much deeper without damage, at roughly a third of the weight. It costs more up front, so the case is strongest if you actually camp off-grid rather than mostly using powered sites.

Can I just replace my existing battery with a lithium one?

Not on its own. Lithium needs a charging profile suited to it, so a DC-DC charger is part of a correct install. Straight to an alternator or an old lead-acid charger you will either never fill it or will shorten its life considerably.

What size battery do I need?

Start from daily draw. A 12V fridge is commonly 30 to 60 amp hours a day depending on conditions, then add lights, charging and any heater. Multiply by the days you want to be independent. Tell us your gear and we will size it with you rather than guessing.

Will a kit fit my vehicle without fabrication?

That is the point of the vehicle-specific kits, which cover Hilux, LandCruiser 79 Series, Ranger, Navara, D-Max and Jeep Gladiator among others. The tray suits existing mounting points and the leads are the right length. Confirm your exact model and build year with us first.

Do I need solar as well?

Not necessarily. A DC-DC charger will refill the battery while you drive, which is enough if you move most days. Solar earns its place when you sit in one spot for several days. Many builds run both.

Can you supply and fit?

Yes. We ship Australia-wide, and we install dual battery systems in our own workshops at Oxley in Brisbane and Warana on the Sunshine Coast.

Building a dual battery or touring setup?
Tell us your vehicle, what you run off it, and how long you need to stay off-grid. We will size the battery and charging properly and can install it at Oxley or Warana.
