Turbochargers: twin on the 200 Series, single on the VDJ

The 200 Series runs twin turbochargers, and the left and right units are different parts, so order the correct side. The 70 Series VDJ runs a single. Genuine units are listed for both.

If a turbo has failed, find out why before the new one goes on. A restricted oil feed, a blocked drain or a dirty intake will take out the replacement the same way. Our turbo repair and replacement page covers what we check in the workshop.

1VD rebuild kits and sizes

Kits come with pistons, rings, bearings and a full gasket set, with sizes selectable to suit a machined block. A size is a measurement, not a grade. It records how far the crank was ground under or the bores went over. You can order before the machinist has finished, and nothing ships until we have confirmed the numbers with you. If STD and 0.25 mean nothing yet, read our sizes explainer. FAST H-beam conrods are listed for builds that call for them.

Exhausts for the V8: check DPF or non-DPF first

Most exhaust listings here are Manta systems for the VDJ70 range and the 200 Series, and DPF and non-DPF vehicles take different parts. Order against build date, body style and engine code rather than the year on the rego papers. On a road-registered V8 that left the factory with a DPF, the filter has to stay fitted and working, which makes DPF-back systems the road option. Our Manta exhaust guide covers which section to replace, aluminised or stainless, and drone.

Injectors, gaskets and the rest of the V8

Injectors and injector seat washers, head and full gasket sets, timing components, oil pumps and sumps, cooling parts and NPC clutch and flywheel kits. Planning a bigger build? Our 79 Series build order guide and 200 Series upgrade guide cover what to do first.

1VD-FTV FAQs

What comes in a 1VD rebuild kit?

Pistons, rings, main and conrod bearings and a full gasket set. Piston and bearing sizes are picked when you order, so the kit suits a block and crank that have been machined. Send us the machine shop sizes and we check them with you before the kit goes out.

Are the left and right 200 Series turbos the same?

No. The 200 Series runs twin turbochargers and the left and right units are different parts, so order by side. The 70 Series VDJ uses one turbo. If you are not sure which you need, send us the VIN.

Do 70 Series and 200 Series 1VD exhausts swap over?

No. An exhaust is built to the vehicle, so a VDJ79 ute, a VDJ76 wagon, a VDJ78 Troop Carrier and a 200 Series each take their own system. DPF and non-DPF builds differ again. Order by model code and build date.

How much is a 1VD rebuild kit?

The 70 Series kit starts at $2,470.68 and the 200 Series kit at $2,455.68. The price depends on the piston, ring and bearing sizes you pick.

How quickly do 1VD parts ship?

Where the product page says Order before 11am AEST for same-day dispatch, an in-stock part ordered by then on a business day goes out that day. Other parts are dispatched by the supplier, usually within 1 to 2 business days. The product page shows which applies.
