Land Rover Diesel

Land Rover Discovery Tuning & Diesel Servicing

The fifth-generation Land Rover Discovery (L462) is a genuinely capable seven-seat 4×4, but its diesel drivetrains reward proper attention. The standout is the 3.0-litre D300 Ingenium inline-six, a 48-volt mild-hybrid unit producing 221kW and 650Nm with peak torque arriving low in the rev range. Earlier and lower variants run the 3.0-litre SDV6 V6 and the 2.0-litre SD4 four-cylinder Ingenium. Every variant runs a DPF and AdBlue (SCR) emissions system, and all are rated to tow 3500kg braked.

At Willy’s Workshop we work on the Discovery the way a complex European diesel should be treated: with factory-grade diagnostics, real dyno data and an understanding of how Land Rover’s Ingenium platform behaves on Australian roads, fuel and towing duty. The smaller 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel in particular is sensitive to short-trip driving, oil dilution and timing-chain wear, while the inline-six engines are stronger but still benefit from disciplined servicing and EGR and DPF management.

Whether you tow a van up the Bruce Highway, run a full load of family and gear, or simply want a sharper, more responsive Discovery, we tune and service these vehicles in-house at our Oxley (Brisbane) and Warana (Sunshine Coast) workshops. No generic off-the-shelf files, no guesswork, just measured work backed by the dyno.

Engines We Tune

Land Rover Discovery diesel engines we tune

3.0L D300 Ingenium inline-6 (MHEV)
221 kW / 650 Nm
48-volt mild-hybrid straight-six (2021 on); strong, smooth low-down torque; DPF and AdBlue; the pick of the L462 diesels.
3.0L SDV6 V6
190 kW / 600 Nm
Early single-turbo V6 diesel; robust and torquey for towing; benefits from disciplined oil and EGR servicing.
2.0L SD4 Ingenium
177 kW / 500 Nm
Four-cylinder Ingenium diesel; sensitive to short-trip use, oil dilution and timing-chain wear, so servicing discipline matters.

Why choose Willy’s for your Land Rover Discovery

Performance Tuning

Custom, in-house ECU tuning for the Discovery D300, SDV6 and SD4, developed on our dyno and tailored to how you actually drive.

  • Custom ECU calibration written in-house for your exact engine and gearbox, not a one-size-fits-all download
  • Sharper throttle response, stronger mid-range torque and smoother towing manners under load to 3500kg
  • Every tune dyno-verified before and after so the gains and the safety margins are measured, not assumed
  • Calibrations developed with EGT, fuelling and turbo behaviour monitored to protect the engine long-term

Servicing & Repair

Full diesel servicing and mechanical repair for the L462 Discovery, with the diagnostics and Ingenium know-how these vehicles demand.

  • Logbook-style servicing with quality oils on intervals suited to short-trip and towing use, not just the maximum manufacturer figure
  • EGR, intake and carbon build-up inspection and cleaning to address rough running, smoke and power loss
  • DPF and AdBlue (SCR) diagnosis, forced regeneration and fault resolution using factory-level scan tools
  • Timing chain, turbo, cooling and driveline inspection to catch known Ingenium wear points early

FAQ

Land Rover Discovery diesel FAQs

How much does tuning a Land Rover Discovery cost, and is it worth it?
Pricing depends on which engine you have and the scope of the work, so we quote each Discovery individually after assessing the vehicle. Because every tune is custom-written and dyno-verified in-house, you pay for measured results rather than a generic file. For owners who tow or want noticeably better mid-range response, the improvement in driveability is well worth it. Contact us for a quote on your specific D300, SDV6 or SD4.
Will tuning my Discovery void my Land Rover warranty?
If your vehicle is still under factory warranty, any modification to the ECU can affect warranty cover for related components. We talk this through honestly before any work so you can make an informed decision. Many of the Discoverys we tune are out of the factory warranty period. If yours is still covered, let us know and we will explain your options.
Can you delete the DPF, EGR or AdBlue system?
Emissions equipment such as the DPF, EGR and AdBlue (SCR) system is required by law on registered road vehicles in Queensland, and removing or defeating it is illegal for road use. We do not perform deletes on road-registered cars. What we can do is properly diagnose, clean, regenerate and repair these systems so they work as intended, which is usually what owners actually need when they have faults or warning lights.
What sort of gains can I expect from a Discovery tune?
Realistic gains depend on the specific engine, its condition and the supporting hardware, which is exactly why we measure everything on the dyno rather than promising a fixed number. The D300 inline-six and the SDV6 respond well in terms of usable torque and throttle response. We will show you the before-and-after dyno results for your own vehicle so the outcome is transparent.
Which Discovery engines and years do you work on?
We service and tune the full L462 (fifth-generation) Discovery diesel range from 2017 onward, including the 2.0-litre SD4 four-cylinder, the 3.0-litre SDV6 V6, and the 3.0-litre D300 Ingenium mild-hybrid inline-six introduced from 2021. If you are unsure which engine your Discovery has, send us the build details or VIN and we will confirm.
How do I book, and how long does the work take?
You can book at either our Oxley (Brisbane) or Warana (Sunshine Coast) workshop by phone or through our website. A standard diesel service is typically a same-day job. Custom tuning involves dyno time and data logging, so we usually allocate a full day so it is done properly. We will confirm timing when you book.
