Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel Tuning & Servicing

The Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 with the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 is a capable, comfortable tourer and tow rig, but the EcoDiesel V6 asks a lot of its owner. The Australian-delivered MY14-on cars produce 184kW and 570Nm through the ZF 8-speed automatic, while earlier WK2 EcoDiesels paired the same engine with a 5-speed Mercedes-sourced auto and slightly lower outputs. Either way, the factory calibration leaves the engine running conservatively, and that is exactly where a properly developed tune earns its keep.

These are emissions-heavy vehicles. Between the high-pressure EGR circuit, the diesel particulate filter (DPF) and the AdBlue SCR system, the EcoDiesel carries every modern after-treatment component, and every one of them can cause grief if the car lives a life of short suburban runs. The EcoDiesel platform also carries a well-documented EGR cooler and emissions remediation history, so the Grand Cherokee benefits from a workshop that understands the engine’s quirks rather than guessing at them.

At Willy’s Workshop we treat the Grand Cherokee as both a performance project and a mechanical one. We run dedicated diesel facilities at Oxley in Brisbane and Warana on the Sunshine Coast, with in-house dyno tuning, factory-level diagnostics and the experience to keep a 3500kg-rated tow vehicle living a long, reliable life under load.

Engines We Tune

Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel engines we tune

3.0L EcoDiesel V6 (MY14-on, ZF 8-speed)
184 kW / 570 Nm
Australian MY14-on WK2 spec. Strong tow rig rated to 3500kg braked, but carries EGR, DPF and AdBlue/SCR after-treatment that needs proper maintenance; known for EGR cooler cracking and oil cooler seepage.
3.0L EcoDiesel V6 (pre-MY14, 5-speed auto)
184kW / 600Nm
Earlier WK2 EcoDiesel using the same engine with a 5-speed Mercedes-sourced automatic and lower factory outputs. Shares the same emissions hardware and the same EGR, DPF and DEF sensor weak points.

FAQ

Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel FAQs

Is tuning the Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel worth it, and what does it cost?
For most owners, yes. The factory tune is conservative, and a custom calibration sharpens throttle response and mid-range torque where you feel it most, especially when towing. Cost depends on the work involved and whether any supporting repairs are needed first, so we provide a written quote after assessing your vehicle. Book a quote and we will give you a clear, fixed scope before any work begins.
Will tuning affect my warranty?
If your Grand Cherokee is still within factory warranty, any ECU modification can affect cover for related components, and you should weigh that up. Most vehicles we tune are out of factory warranty. We will talk you through the implications honestly before you commit so there are no surprises.
Can you delete or modify the DPF, EGR or AdBlue system?
Removing or defeating emissions equipment such as the DPF, EGR or AdBlue/SCR is not legal for a road-registered vehicle in Queensland, so we do not offer that. What we do is keep these systems working properly, diagnosing faults, clearing blockages, managing regeneration and repairing failed components so the car runs clean and reliably.
What sort of gains can I expect from a tune?
Gains vary with the specific vehicle, its condition and its modifications, so we do not quote fixed figures up front. Every tune is developed and measured on our in-house dyno, and we share the before-and-after results with you. The most noticeable improvement on the EcoDiesel is usually mid-range torque and drivability rather than a single headline number.
Which Grand Cherokee engines and years do you work on?
We focus on the WK2 Grand Cherokee 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. The Australian MY14-on cars run the ZF 8-speed automatic and produce 184kW and 570Nm, while earlier WK2 EcoDiesels used a 5-speed automatic. We service and tune both, and we are happy to advise on what suits your specific build and year.
How do I book, and how long does the work take?
Call or book online at either our Oxley (Brisbane) or Warana (Sunshine Coast) workshop. A standard service is usually a same-day job, while custom tuning and dyno work typically takes the better part of a day so we can develop and validate the calibration properly. We will confirm timing when you book.
