Ford Diesel

Ford Everest Performance Tuning & Diesel Servicing

The Ford Everest is Ranger underneath, which makes it one of the most capable seven-seat 4WD touring platforms on Australian roads. Across its life it has run three distinct diesel drivetrains: the 3.2-litre five-cylinder P5AT (143kW/470Nm), the 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo four (154kW/500Nm), and the Next-Gen 3.0-litre V6 Power Stroke (184kW and 600Nm from 1750-2250rpm). Each responds very differently to tuning, and each carries its own maintenance demands, so we tune and service every Everest to the specific engine in front of us, never a one-size-fits-all file.

Owners come to us because they load these wagons up the way they were built to be loaded: seven aboard, a camper or van on the towball, and long hauls north into the heat. That is exactly where the factory calibration plays it safe. Our tuning is custom, developed in-house on the factory ECU and dyno-verified on every car, with the goal of cleaner low-down torque, sharper throttle response and steadier behaviour under sustained towing load rather than a headline number that falls apart on the first big climb.

We also know the Everest’s weak spots first-hand. The PUMA-era engines (2.0 Bi-Turbo and 3.0 V6) have a known EGR cooler failure issue (Ford Field Service Action 24N06) that can dump coolant without warning, the V6 has been subject to a left camshaft sprocket recall, and the older 3.2 P5AT is hard on DPFs in short-trip use. Whether you want more out of your Everest or simply want it kept honest for the long haul, both our Brisbane (Oxley) and Sunshine Coast (Warana) workshops are set up for it.

Why choose Willy’s for your Ford Everest

Performance Tuning

Custom ECU tuning developed in-house on the factory ECU and proven on the dyno, tailored to your exact engine and how you use the car.

  • Engine-specific calibration for the 3.2 P5AT, 2.0 Bi-Turbo or 3.0 V6 Power Stroke, written for your car and verified on our dyno rather than flashed off a generic file.
  • Tuned for towing and touring: stronger, smoother low-down torque in the V6’s 1750-2250rpm sweet spot to hold a van or camper on long climbs without the gearbox hunting through its ten ratios.
  • Sharper throttle response and reduced turbo lag, particularly noticeable on the 2.0 Bi-Turbo, so the Everest feels less hesitant off-idle when fully loaded.
  • Transmission and shift behaviour reviewed alongside the engine map so the 10-speed (or 6-speed on the 3.2) shifts cleanly under load instead of slipping or holding gears unnecessarily.

Servicing & Repair

Full diesel servicing and repair from a workshop that knows the Everest platform’s known faults and addresses them before they leave you stranded.

  • EGR cooler inspection on PUMA-era 2.0 and 3.0 engines, checking for the coolant-loss failure mode covered by Ford Field Service Action 24N06 before it overheats the engine.
  • DPF health checks, forced regeneration and cleaning for 3.2 P5AT Everests doing school runs and short trips, where the filter struggles to regenerate and tips the car into limp mode.
  • Wet timing belt service on the 2.0-litre EcoBlue engine, which runs an oil-bath belt with a finite life, plus timing chain checks on the 3.2 P5AT and turbocharger and AdBlue/SCR system diagnostics across the range.
  • Logbook-standard scheduled servicing, cooling system and transmission checks, and pre-tow / pre-trip inspections so the Everest is sorted before a long QLD haul, not after.

FAQ

Ford Everest diesel FAQs

Will tuning my Ford Everest void the factory warranty?
It can affect the powertrain warranty, so it is a decision to make with eyes open. Because we tune on the factory ECU, our calibration can be returned to standard if needed, and many owners choose to tune once their vehicle is out of the warranty period or accept the trade-off for how they use the car. We will talk you through exactly what changes and what it means for your specific Everest before any work begins.
Is the 3.0 V6 or the 2.0 Bi-Turbo better for towing, and can tuning help either?
The 3.0 V6 Power Stroke makes 184kW and 600Nm and is the stronger native tow vehicle, with both rated to tow up to 3,500kg braked. The 2.0 Bi-Turbo is very capable but works harder under heavy load. Tuning helps both: on the V6 we firm up the mid-range torque for steadier climbs, and on the Bi-Turbo we focus on response and reducing lag so it feels more relaxed with a van behind it. We tune to how and what you actually tow.
My older 3.2 Everest keeps going into limp mode. Can you fix it?
Limp mode on a 3.2 P5AT is most often a clogged DPF (common in short-trip and urban driving), an EGR fault, or a cooling-related issue under heavy load. We diagnose the actual cause first rather than guessing, carry out DPF cleaning or forced regeneration where needed, and check the EGR and cooling systems. From there we can advise whether a service fix or a custom tune suits how you use the vehicle.
Will tuning my Everest affect its emissions equipment or its road legality in Queensland?
This matters because the diesel Everest relies on emissions hardware your tune has to respect. Euro 6 Bi-Turbo and Next-Gen V6 models run AdBlue (SCR), and all run a DPF, so any work we do is calibrated to keep that emissions system functioning as designed. We tune for performance and drivability while keeping your vehicle suited to road use in QLD. If you have a specific concern about your model year or how it’s used, raise it when you book at Oxley (Brisbane) or Warana (Sunshine Coast) and we’ll talk you through what’s appropriate for your Everest.
Which Everest engines and model years do you cover at Oxley and Warana?
We cover the common Australian diesel Everest drivetrains: the older 3.2L 5-cylinder P5AT, the 2.0L Bi-Turbo EcoBlue (paired with the 10-speed auto), and the Next-Gen 3.0L V6 Power Stroke. Because calibration differs between these engines and across model years, the right approach depends on your exact build. Tell us your VIN or build details when you book and we’ll confirm what we can do for your specific Everest before any work starts.
The EGR cooler is a known weak point on these engines — can you check it as part of the job?
Yes. The EGR cooler is a recognised weak point on these diesels, so it’s sensible to have it assessed while your Everest is with us rather than discover a problem later. As a diesel and mechanical workshop we can inspect the EGR and cooling system condition alongside any performance work and flag anything that needs attention. Mention it when you book at Oxley or Warana and we’ll factor an inspection into the appointment.
