Mercedes-Benz Diesel

Mercedes-Benz GLE Diesel Tuning & Servicing

The Mercedes-Benz GLE is a premium European SUV, and its diesel drivetrains reward owners who understand them. Whether you run the four-cylinder GLE300d with the 2.0-litre OM654 or the inline-six GLE350d with the 3.0-litre OM656 and EQ Boost 48V mild-hybrid system, both are sophisticated, emissions-heavy engines paired with the 9G-Tronic automatic. At Willy’s Workshop we work on these platforms every week across our Oxley (Brisbane) and Warana (Sunshine Coast) workshops, so we know how they behave on Australian roads, fuel and driving patterns.

The GLE350d’s OM656 remains one of the most capable production diesels Mercedes has built, delivering 200kW and 600Nm with strong, linear pull from low in the rev range. The GLE300d’s OM654 is the efficient, lighter four-cylinder option. Both share the same modern diesel architecture: a variable-geometry turbo, common-rail injection, a DPF, and an AdBlue/SCR system to manage emissions. These systems work well when serviced correctly and cause grief when they are neglected.

Our approach is straightforward. We diagnose properly, service to the standard a European diesel demands, and tune in-house on factory ECU strategy when an owner wants more from the engine. No generic files, no shortcuts — every result is measured and verified.

GLE300d – 2.0L 4-cyl OM654

Efficient four-cylinder turbo-diesel with a variable-geometry turbo and 9G-Tronic; rewards correct-spec oil and regular servicing, as short-trip use accelerates valve-train and DPF issues.
Tuning & Servicing

Why choose Willy’s for your Mercedes-Benz GLE

Performance Tuning

Custom, in-house ECU tuning developed and dyno-verified for your specific GLE

  • Custom ECU calibration written in-house on the factory Mercedes ECU strategy — never an off-the-shelf generic file — to sharpen throttle response and broaden the torque curve of the OM654 or OM656
  • Every tune is developed and verified on the dyno so the figures we quote are figures we have measured, with safe limits respected for the 9G-Tronic and driveline
  • Transmission and pedal-map refinement available alongside the engine calibration so the GLE feels cohesive, not just stronger on paper
  • Towing and touring calibrations that improve mid-range pull and load-carrying behaviour while keeping exhaust gas temperatures and rail pressures within sensible margins

Servicing & Repair

Specialist diesel servicing and repair for the OM654 and OM656

  • Manufacturer-grade logging servicing with correct-specification oil and filtration — critical on the OM654, where short-trip use and poor oil quality accelerate valve-train and timing-chain wear
  • DPF and EGR diagnosis, cleaning and carbon-buildup remediation, including forced regeneration and root-cause testing rather than just resetting warning lights
  • AdBlue/SCR system fault-finding for limp-mode and countdown warnings — we test the whole system (dosing injector, sensors, fluid quality) instead of replacing parts blind
  • Timing-chain, injector-seal, turbo and electronic diagnostics using proper Mercedes-capable equipment at both Oxley and Warana

FAQ

Mercedes-Benz GLE diesel FAQs

Is tuning a Mercedes-Benz GLE diesel worth it?
For most owners, yes — particularly the GLE350d. A properly developed custom tune sharpens throttle response and broadens the usable torque band, which makes a heavy SUV far more relaxed to drive, tow with and overtake in. Because we tune in-house and verify on the dyno, you get a result matched to your exact car and its condition, not a generic file. We’re happy to discuss realistic outcomes for your GLE before you commit. Get a quote or book an assessment at Oxley or Warana.
Will tuning void my Mercedes-Benz warranty?
If your GLE is still within the factory warranty period, any ECU modification can affect warranty coverage on related components, and that’s a decision only you can make. Many of the cars we tune are out of factory warranty. We can talk you through the implications honestly before any work begins so there are no surprises — we’d rather you make an informed choice than regret it later.
Can you delete the DPF, EGR or AdBlue system on a GLE?
Emissions-control hardware such as the DPF, EGR and AdBlue/SCR system is required by law on road-registered vehicles in Australia, and tampering with it is illegal. We don’t offer deletes. What we do offer is proper diagnosis, cleaning and repair so these systems work as designed — which solves the running problems most owners actually experience without putting your registration or roadworthiness at risk.
How much power can the GLE300d and GLE350d gain from tuning?
Gains depend on the engine, its condition, fuel and the safe limits of the driveline, so we won’t quote a headline number sight unseen. The inline-six OM656 in the GLE350d responds particularly well thanks to its strong base architecture, while the OM654 in the GLE300d sees worthwhile mid-range improvement. Every figure we give you is measured on our dyno, not estimated. Contact us for a realistic projection for your specific vehicle.
Which GLE diesel engines and years do you work on?
We service and tune both current GLE diesel variants: the GLE300d with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder OM654, and the GLE350d with the 3.0-litre inline-six OM656 and its EQ Boost 48V mild-hybrid system, both running the 9G-Tronic automatic. We also handle earlier GLE diesels. If you’re unsure which engine your car has, give us the build year and VIN and we’ll confirm before you book.
How do I book, and how long does the work take?
You can book at either our Oxley (Brisbane) or Warana (Sunshine Coast) workshop. A standard diesel service is typically a same-day job. Custom tuning usually means leaving the car with us for the day so we can baseline, calibrate and dyno-verify properly. Diagnostic work on DPF, EGR or AdBlue faults depends on what we find. Get in touch to book a time and we’ll give you a clear timeframe up front.
