Holden Diesel

Holden Colorado RC Diesel Tuning & Servicing

The RC Colorado (2008-2012) was Holden’s first-generation Colorado, built on Isuzu underpinnings and running the 3.0-litre 4JJ1 turbo-diesel shared with the same-era D-Max. It’s an older platform now, and a proper tune only pays off if the engine’s condition is checked first.

We tune the RC’s 4JJ1 in-house on the factory ECU, on our own dyno, matched to your exact truck rather than a generic off-the-shelf file.

The 4JJ1 has a known reputation for oil consumption and timing-chain wear if it’s been neglected, so we check both before recommending a tune. A well-maintained RC responds well; a tired one needs sorting first.

FAQ

Holden Colorado RC diesel FAQs

What is a Holden Colorado RC?
RC is the model code for the first-generation Holden Colorado, sold in Australia from 2008 to 2012. It’s built on Isuzu underpinnings and shares its 3.0L 4JJ1 turbo-diesel with the equivalent-era D-Max. It was replaced by the RG Colorado in 2012.
RC or RG Colorado — which one do I have?
If your Colorado was built 2008-2012 and runs a 3.0L engine, it’s an RC. If it’s a 2012-onward model with the 2.8L Duramax, it’s an RG. Tell us your build year and we’ll confirm which generation and engine you have.
What are common problems with the RC Colorado’s 4JJ1 engine?
The 3.0L 4JJ1 has a reputation for oil consumption and timing-chain wear if it hasn’t been properly maintained. We check both before recommending a tune, and can diagnose and repair either issue at our Oxley or Warana workshop.
Is it worth tuning an RC Colorado in 2026?
It depends on the engine’s condition. A well-maintained 4JJ1 with no oil-consumption or timing-chain issues responds well to a custom tune. Given the RC is now well over a decade old, we always check engine health first rather than tuning a truck that needs mechanical attention.
How much does RC Colorado tuning cost?
Cost depends on the engine’s condition and any supporting modifications, so we quote once we’ve assessed your specific truck. Book your RC in or request a quote and we’ll talk through realistic outcomes.
