Volkswagen Diesel

Volkswagen Crafter Tuning, Servicing & Diesel Repair

The current-generation Volkswagen Crafter (SY, 2017 onward) is one of the most capable large vans on Australian roads, built around a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TDI engine paired with an 8-speed automatic or six-speed manual. It is a genuine workhorse for fleets, trades and conversion builds, but like every modern Euro diesel it relies on an EGR system, a DPF and an AdBlue (SCR) setup to meet emissions standards. When those systems are pushed hard by stop-start urban work or short delivery runs, the Crafter can become frustrating to live with. That is exactly where Willy’s Workshop comes in.

Locally, the Crafter is sold in two main outputs. The TDI340 runs a single-turbo 2.0 TDI producing 103kW and 340Nm, while the TDI410 uses a bi-turbo version of the same engine for 130kW and 410Nm. Both share the same 2.0-litre TDI base, AdBlue dosing and particulate filter, and both respond well to a properly developed calibration. Whether you are running a single van or a yard full of them, the goal is the same: more usable torque down low, smoother throttle response under load, and a drivetrain that holds together under daily commercial use.

At Willy’s Workshop we treat the Crafter as a commercial asset, not a toy. Every tune is custom-built in-house on the factory ECU and verified on our dyno, and every service is carried out by diesel-focused technicians who know these vans inside out. With workshops at Oxley in Brisbane and Warana on the Sunshine Coast, we keep Queensland Crafters earning their keep.

Engines We Tune

Volkswagen Crafter diesel engines we tune

2.0 TDI (TDI340, single turbo)
103 kW / 340 Nm
Entry single-turbo 2.0-litre diesel for the Crafter; dependable fleet workhorse that benefits most from improved low-end and mid-range response.
2.0 TDI (TDI410, bi-turbo)
130 kW / 410 Nm
Bi-turbo version of the 2.0 TDI for higher-output Crafter variants; stronger torque base that responds well to careful calibration for loaded and towing duty.
Tuning & Servicing

Why choose Willy’s for your Volkswagen Crafter

Performance Tuning

Custom, in-house ECU tuning developed and dyno-verified on the factory ECU for real-world commercial gains.

  • Custom calibration written in-house for your specific Crafter, never a generic off-the-shelf file flashed blind onto the factory ECU
  • Focus on mid-range torque and throttle response so a loaded van pulls cleaner from low revs, on hills and when towing
  • Every tune is dyno-verified and road-tested under load, with before-and-after data so you can see exactly what changed
  • Calibration developed to suit the 8-speed automatic and the Crafter’s drivetrain, keeping shift quality and reliability front of mind

Servicing & Repair

Full mechanical servicing and diesel repair for the Crafter range, from logbook maintenance to emissions-system diagnosis.

  • Scheduled logbook servicing using correct-spec oils and filters to protect the 2.0 TDI and its emissions hardware
  • Diagnosis and repair of common Crafter faults: DPF regeneration issues, EGR carbon build-up and AdBlue/SCR system faults
  • Forced DPF regeneration, intake decarbonising and driveability diagnostics for vans doing heavy stop-start urban work
  • 8-speed automatic servicing, cooling system and timing-component inspection to catch wear before it becomes a breakdown

FAQ

Volkswagen Crafter diesel FAQs

Is tuning a VW Crafter worth it for a work van?
For most commercial operators, yes. The biggest real-world benefit is extra mid-range torque, which makes a loaded Crafter feel less strained pulling away, climbing hills and towing. A van that works less hard for the same job is generally easier to drive and more economical in the right conditions. Book it in and we can talk through what your specific Crafter and workload will gain.
Will tuning affect my Volkswagen warranty?
Any modification to a vehicle still under factory warranty can affect related claims, and that applies to ECU tuning as it would to other changes. We are upfront about this. If your Crafter is still covered, talk to us first and we will explain your options, including how our calibrations are stored and what is involved if you ever need to revert to the factory file.
Can you delete the DPF, EGR or AdBlue system on my Crafter?
Emissions-control equipment such as the DPF, EGR and AdBlue/SCR system is required by law for road-registered vehicles in Australia, and removing it is not something we do for on-road vans. What we can do is diagnose and properly repair these systems, carry out forced regenerations, decarbonise the intake and resolve recurring faults so they work the way they should rather than constantly throwing warnings.
How much power and torque can I expect to gain?
Gains depend on the exact variant, its condition and how the van is used, so we do not quote a fixed figure before we have seen the vehicle. The TDI340 and bi-turbo TDI410 respond differently, and our priority is usable, reliable torque rather than a headline number. Every result is measured on our dyno so you see your van’s actual before-and-after, not an estimate.
Which Crafter engines and years do you tune and service?
We work on the current-generation Crafter (SY, 2017 onward) with the 2.0-litre TDI engine, covering both the single-turbo TDI340 and the bi-turbo TDI410, in automatic and manual form. If you are unsure exactly which variant you have, send us the details from your build plate or registration and we will confirm what we can do.
How do I book and how long does it take?
You can book at either our Oxley (Brisbane) or Warana (Sunshine Coast) workshop. A standard service is usually a same-day job, while custom tuning involves dyno time, so we typically allow a full day to develop, verify and road-test the calibration properly. Get in touch and we will find a slot that keeps your van off the road for as little time as possible.
