Description
Crankshaft Position Sensor – Dodge / Ram 1998-2001
These crankshaft position sensors accurately relay signals to the ECM, enabling it to calculate engine RPM, crankshaft position, and detect engine misfires.
Built with a permanent magnet, yoke, and coil, these sensors are mounted close to a toothed gear. As the gear’s teeth pass the sensor, AC voltage pulses are induced in the coil, one pulse per tooth.
The faster the gear rotates, the more pulses are generated. The ECM measures these pulses per second (signal frequency) to determine the component’s rotational speed.
