BMW X5 Diesel Tuning & Servicing

The G05-generation BMW X5 is one of the most refined diesel SUVs sold in Australia, and the 3.0-litre B57 inline-six that powers the xDrive30d is a genuinely strong platform to build on. In standard pre-facelift form the xDrive30d delivers 195kW and 620Nm, with the later facelifted models producing more again. At Willy’s Workshop we develop every X5 tune in-house and verify it on the dyno, rather than flashing a generic off-the-shelf file.

The X5 is a premium European diesel, and it carries the complexity that comes with that. The B57 relies on a tightly integrated emissions setup: high-pressure EGR, a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and an AdBlue/SCR system that all have to work together for regeneration to complete properly. Later G05 diesels added 48V mild-hybrid assistance, which changes how the driveline behaves under load. Understanding how these systems interact is the difference between a tune that lasts and one that throws a fault on the first cold morning.

Whether you want crisper throttle response and stronger mid-range for towing and touring, or you simply want the X5 serviced and diagnosed properly by people who know the platform, our Oxley (Brisbane) and Warana (Sunshine Coast) workshops handle it. We treat the factory ECU calibration as the starting point and refine from there, always within what the hardware and emissions equipment can safely support.

Engines We Tune

BMW X5 diesel engines we tune

3.0L B57 inline-six (xDrive30d, pre-facelift)
195 kW / 620 Nm
Single-turbo B57 diesel; smooth, torque-rich and the most common X5 diesel in Australia. Later G05 diesels add 48V mild-hybrid assistance. Watch EGR, DPF and AdBlue/SCR health.
3.0L B57 inline-six (xDrive30d, facelift)
195kW / 620Nm
Updated single-turbo B57 in the facelifted G05; stronger outputs than the pre-facelift car. Confirm exact figures by build date before tuning. Same EGR, DPF and AdBlue/SCR maintenance considerations apply.
Tuning & Servicing

Why choose Willy’s for your BMW X5

Performance Tuning

Custom, dyno-verified ECU tuning for the BMW X5 B57 diesel, developed in-house to suit how you actually drive.

  • Custom ECU calibration written specifically for your X5’s B57 inline-six diesel, never a one-size-fits-all file.
  • Real gains in mid-range torque and throttle sharpness that make towing, highway overtaking and loaded touring noticeably easier in a 2.2-tonne SUV.
  • Every change is validated on our dyno across the rev range, so we can confirm power, torque and air/fuel behaviour rather than guess.
  • Tuning respects the factory ECU’s safety and emissions logic, keeping the DPF, EGR and AdBlue/SCR systems intact and functioning.

Servicing & Repair

Full mechanical servicing, diagnostics and repair for the BMW X5 diesel by technicians who understand the B57 platform.

  • Logged servicing with correct BMW-specification oils, filters and intervals to keep the timing chain, turbo and injection system healthy.
  • Diagnosis and repair of the common B57 trouble spots: EGR cooler faults, DPF blockage, AdBlue injector crystallisation and NOx sensor failures.
  • Forced and assisted DPF regeneration plus soot and ash assessment, particularly for X5s used mainly on short suburban trips.
  • Full electronic diagnostics for limp-mode, drivetrain and emissions warnings, with a clear explanation of what’s actually wrong before any work begins.

FAQ

BMW X5 diesel FAQs

Is tuning my BMW X5 diesel worth it?
For most owners, yes. The B57 responds well to a properly developed calibration, particularly in the mid-range where you feel it most when towing, overtaking or carrying a full load. Because we tune in-house and verify on the dyno, you get a result matched to your specific X5 rather than a generic flash. We’re happy to discuss realistic expectations for your variant before you book.
Will tuning void my BMW factory warranty?
If your X5 is still within the BMW factory warranty period, any ECU modification can affect warranty coverage on related components, and that’s a decision only you can make. Many of the X5s we tune are out of factory warranty. We’ll talk you through the considerations honestly so you can decide what’s right for your situation.
Can you delete the DPF, EGR or AdBlue system on my X5?
No. Removing or disabling emissions equipment such as the DPF, EGR or AdBlue/SCR system is illegal for road-registered vehicles in Australia. We keep all of these systems intact and functional. Where you’re having trouble with them, the correct path is proper diagnosis and repair, which is work we do regularly on the B57.
How much power and torque can I gain?
Gains depend on your exact variant, its condition and whether it’s a pre- or post-facelift car, so we never quote a fixed figure sight-unseen. We assess your X5 on the dyno first, then tune to what the hardware and emissions equipment can safely support, and show you the before-and-after results.
Which X5 engines and years do you work on?
We focus on the G05-generation X5 diesels powered by the 3.0-litre B57 inline-six, including the xDrive30d (195kW/620Nm pre-facelift, more on the later facelifted cars, with and without 48V mild-hybrid). If you’re unsure which engine your X5 runs, give us the build details and we’ll confirm what we can do.
How do I book and how long does it take?
Just contact our Oxley (Brisbane) or Warana (Sunshine Coast) workshop to arrange a time. A standard service is typically completed within the day, while dyno tuning is usually a full-day booking so we can road-test, log and verify the result properly. Diagnostic and repair timeframes depend on the fault, and we’ll give you an estimate once we’ve assessed the car.
