Common-Rail Diesel Injector Specialists

Common-Rail Diesel Injector Cleaning & Testing

Losing power, blowing smoke, hard to start or watching your fuel economy fall off? On a modern diesel it is very often the injectors. We diagnose, clean, test and replace common-rail diesel injectors, for utes, 4WDs, trucks and machinery, out of our Oxley and Warana workshops. If it is only a small issue a treatment might sort it. If not, we remove, ultrasonic clean and test the injectors, and replace any that fail with genuine units.

Common-rail injectors run at extreme pressure with tolerances measured in microns, so when they wear or clog the whole engine suffers. Hard starting, a diesel knock, smoke, lost power and rising fuel use all trace back to injectors that are no longer spraying the way they should. The trap is guessing, so we start on the scanner and the gauges to confirm the injectors are actually the fault and not the pump, a sensor or the fuel filter.

If it is a minor issue, sometimes a quality fuel treatment is all it needs, and we will tell you that rather than sell you injectors. When it is more than that, the injectors come out, get ultrasonic cleaned and tested for delivery rate, spray pattern and back-leakage against the manufacturer tolerances. A cleaned injector that passes goes back in. Common-rail injectors are not rebuilt with new internals in Australia, so any that fail the test are replaced with genuine units.

When an injector is replaced it has to be coded to the ECU, using the Bosch IMA, Denso QR or Delphi calibration codes, with the fuel learnings reset. Skip that and even a brand-new injector makes the engine run rough and thirsty. We fit genuine injectors only and code them properly, with a firm price before any work starts, so the fix lasts.

What We Do

Injector work we do

Injector Diagnostics
Find the real cause
Smoke, hard starting, power loss or limp mode, scanned and tested before any injector is pulled.
Clean & Test
Measured, not guessed
Injectors removed, ultrasonic cleaned and tested for flow, spray and back-leakage against factory specs.
Fuel Treatments
For minor issues
If it is only a small or early problem, a professional fuel treatment can sort it without pulling injectors.
Replace & Code
Genuine injectors only
Genuine Bosch, Denso or Delphi injectors fitted and coded to the ECU when one fails the test.

Why choose Willy’s for injectors

Diagnosis & Testing

Confirmed on the scanner and on test, because pulling injectors that were never the fault costs you money.

  • Live data, fault codes and rail pressure read
  • Flow, spray and back-leakage tested
  • A straight answer on the condition

Clean & Test

Removed, ultrasonic cleaned and tested, so you only replace what has actually failed.

  • A professional treatment for minor issues
  • Removed and ultrasonic cleaned
  • Tested, refit if they pass

Replacement & ECU Coding

Failed injectors replaced with genuine units and coded to the ECU so the engine runs right.

  • Genuine Bosch, Denso and Delphi only
  • IMA, QR and calibration codes written
  • Fuel learnings reset and road tested

Know The Signs

Signs your injectors need testing

Catch these early. Worn injectors can wash a bore, dilute the oil and clog the DPF, so a small injector job left alone becomes a big engine one.

  • Hard starting, especially when cold
  • White, black or blue smoke from the exhaust
  • A diesel knock, rattle or rough idle
  • Lost power and sluggish acceleration
  • Rising fuel use for no reason
  • Check-engine light or limp mode
  • A strong diesel smell or fuel in the oil
  • Injector-related fault codes on a scan
Systems We Service

Common-rail systems we test

Injectors are not all the same, and the right fix depends on the type. We diagnose, clean, test and replace the major systems:

Bosch CRI
Light-duty solenoid injectors on utes and 4WDs, cleaned, tested and replaced when needed
Bosch CRIN
Heavy-duty commercial and truck injectors built for higher pressure and flow
Denso
Toyota, Isuzu and Nissan injectors, cleaned, tested and replaced with genuine units
Delphi
Solenoid injectors cleaned, tested or replaced
Piezo injectors
Fast-acting piezo units that demand precise testing
Vehicles We Service

Diesels we look after

Factory and tuned common-rail diesels, utes, 4WDs, trucks and machinery:

  • Toyota HiLux, LandCruiser & Prado
  • Ford Ranger & Everest
  • Isuzu D-Max & MU-X
  • Mazda BT-50
  • Nissan Navara & Patrol
  • Mitsubishi Triton & Pajero
  • Volkswagen Amarok
  • Holden Colorado & Trailblazer
  • Light-commercial & trucks (Bosch CRIN)
  • European diesels & machinery

FAQ

Injector testing FAQs

Can common-rail injectors be cleaned, or do they need replacing?
We remove, ultrasonic clean and test them first. If a cleaned injector passes the test it goes back in. Common-rail injectors are not rebuilt with new internals in Australia, so if one fails the test we replace it with a genuine injector and code it to the ECU. We tell you which is which before any work goes ahead.
Will a fuel-additive injector cleaner fix my problem?
If it is only a small or early issue, sometimes a quality fuel treatment is enough, and we will tell you that rather than sell you injectors. But an additive cannot fix a worn or failed injector. Those have to come out, be cleaned and tested, and replaced with genuine units if they fail.
How do you test diesel injectors?
Once they are out and ultrasonic cleaned, each injector is tested for delivery rate, spray pattern and back-leakage and compared against the manufacturer tolerances. A cleaned injector that passes goes back in, and any that fail are replaced. You get a straight answer on the condition, measured rather than guessed.
Do common-rail injectors need coding after replacement?
Yes. Bosch IMA, Denso QR and Delphi calibration codes have to be written to the ECU and the fuel learnings reset whenever an injector is replaced. We do this as part of the job, because without it even a brand-new injector makes the engine run rough and use more fuel.
What are the signs of a bad diesel injector?
Hard starting, a diesel knock or rattle, white or black smoke, rough idle, lost power, rising fuel use and limp mode are the common ones. A leaking injector can also wash fuel into the engine oil. If you have any of these, get it tested before it damages the engine.
Do you service Bosch, Denso and Delphi injectors?
Yes. We diagnose, clean and test Bosch (CRI and CRIN), Denso and Delphi common-rail injectors, including piezo units, and fit genuine replacements with the correct calibration codes when an injector fails the test.
Can a leaking injector damage my engine?
It can. A leaking or over-fuelling injector can wash the bore, dilute the engine oil and, in a worst case, contribute to a diesel runaway. It also loads the DPF with soot. Sorting a faulty injector early is far cheaper than the engine damage that follows if it is left.
How much does common-rail injector service cost?
It depends on your engine, how many injectors are affected, and whether a clean sorts them or they need replacing with genuine units. That is why we test first. Once we know the condition you get a firm quote before any work starts.
