Ford Diesel Performance Tuning & Servicing

Ford’s diesel range is one of the most common platforms through our Oxley and Warana workshops, and for good reason. From the 3.2-litre five-cylinder P5AT in the PX-series Ranger to the 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo EcoBlue and the current 3.0-litre V6 Power Stroke in the Next-Gen Ranger and Everest, these engines respond extremely well to properly developed tuning and disciplined maintenance. Willy’s Workshop treats them as the capable touring, towing and work platforms they are, rather than chasing headline numbers at the expense of longevity.

Each Ford diesel has its own character and its own known weak points. The 3.2 P5AT is a torquey, long-legged five-cylinder let down by its EGR cooler and DPF behaviour on short urban runs. The 2.0 Bi-Turbo is efficient and quiet but sensitive to oil quality and wet timing-belt care. The V6 brought a smoother, more powerful platform with revised emissions hardware, but introduced its own service items. We tune and service all of them with that engine-specific knowledge built in, not a generic file dropped onto a flash tool.

Every Ford that comes through is tuned in-house on our own dyno, with calibration developed and verified across the full rev and load range. We work with the factory ECU, keep the result drivable and reliable, and back it with the same mechanical workshop that services it. That means your tune and your servicing come from one team that understands the whole vehicle.

Engines We Tune

Ford diesel engines we tune

3.0L V6 Power Stroke (Next-Gen Ranger/Everest diesel)
184 kW / 600 Nm
Smooth, powerful current-generation diesel in the diesel Wildtrak and Everest, not the petrol Raptor. Strong, refined and well suited to towing, with EGR and DPF emissions hardware and AdBlue/SCR on Euro6 variants. Early V6s were subject to a camshaft sprocket recall, so verify history.
2.0L Bi-Turbo EcoBlue (4-cyl)
157 kW / 500 Nm
Efficient, quiet sequential twin-turbo four-cylinder with strong response for its size. Sensitive to oil quality, which affects the wet timing belt and emissions-system life, so disciplined servicing matters. Responds well to a properly developed calibration.
3.2L 5-cyl P5AT (PX-series Ranger)
147 kW / 470 Nm
Torquey, long-legged five-cylinder that is a touring favourite but known for EGR cooler internal cracking, which can leak coolant into the engine, plus DPF clogging on short urban trips. Servicing and EGR health are critical before any tune.
2.2L Duratorq (4-cyl)
118 kW / 385 Nm
Smooth, economical four-cylinder fitted to lower-spec and fleet Ranger variants. Common-rail with variable-nozzle turbo, EGR and DPF. A dependable work engine that benefits from clean filtration and on-time servicing.

Why choose Willy’s for your Ford

Performance Tuning

Custom, in-house ECU tuning developed and dyno-verified for your specific Ford diesel and how you use it.

  • Custom calibration written to the factory Ford ECU and verified on our in-house dyno across the full rev and load range, not a generic off-the-shelf file
  • Tuning developed around your real use, whether that is towing a van or boat, long-distance touring, or daily driving, so the gains are usable and the drivability is preserved
  • Engine-specific knowledge for each platform, including the P5AT 3.2, the 2.0 Bi-Turbo EcoBlue and the 3.0 V6 Power Stroke, so the calibration suits the hardware in front of us
  • Honest assessment first, including engine and DPF health, before we commit to a tune, because we will not flash a tired or compromised engine

Servicing & Repair

Full mechanical servicing and diesel repair for Ford Ranger, Everest and Transit, with the known fault points covered.

  • Logbook-style servicing and oil changes using the correct grades, which matters on the 2.0 Bi-Turbo and V6 where oil quality directly affects the timing belt and emissions-system life
  • EGR cooler diagnosis and repair on the 3.2 P5AT, including the known internal-cracking failure that can leak coolant into the engine if left unchecked
  • DPF cleaning, forced regeneration and diagnosis for vehicles doing short urban trips that never complete a full burn cycle
  • AdBlue and SCR system servicing, injector and turbo diagnosis, and full scan-tool fault-finding for Euro6 and Next-Gen variants

FAQ

Ford diesel FAQs

How much does it cost to tune or service my Ford diesel, and is it worth it?
Cost depends on the engine, the variant and what you actually need, so we provide a quote after we know your vehicle and how you use it. For most Ranger and Everest owners the value is in usable mid-range torque for towing and touring, plus smoother throttle response, all developed in-house and dyno-verified rather than guessed. We will give you an honest view of whether your particular vehicle is worth tuning before you spend anything.
Will tuning my Ford void the factory warranty?
If your Ford is still within the manufacturer warranty period, any modification including ECU tuning can affect warranty cover on related components, so this is a decision to make with eyes open. Many of our Ford customers are out of warranty or accept that trade-off for the gains. We are always upfront about this and can talk through where you stand before any work starts.
What about the DPF, EGR and AdBlue systems, and what is legal in Australia?
We keep emissions hardware functional and road-legal. On the road we do not delete or disable DPF, EGR or AdBlue/SCR systems on vehicles used on public roads. What we do is keep them working properly, including EGR cooler repair on the 3.2 P5AT, DPF cleaning and forced regeneration, and AdBlue/SCR diagnosis on Euro6 and Next-Gen variants, so the systems do the job Ford intended without putting you in limp mode.
What sort of gains can I expect from a Ford diesel tune?
Realistic gains depend heavily on the engine and whether other supporting items are healthy, which is why we do not publish a fixed figure for every vehicle. The goal is a meaningful, usable improvement in mid-range torque and response that suits towing and touring, delivered safely and confirmed on our dyno. We would rather give you a reliable result you can use every day than an inflated number that shortens the life of the engine.
Which Ford engines and years do you tune and service?
We work across the Ford diesel range commonly seen in Australia, including the 2.2-litre Duratorq, the 3.2-litre five-cylinder P5AT in PX-series Ranger, the 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo EcoBlue, and the 3.0-litre V6 Power Stroke in the Next-Gen Ranger and Everest, plus Transit diesels. If you are unsure which engine you have, give us the build details or VIN and we will confirm exactly what we can do.
How do I book, and how long will the work take?
You can book in at either of our workshops, Oxley in Brisbane or Warana on the Sunshine Coast, and we will confirm timing once we know what your Ford needs. A service or diagnostic visit is usually same-day, while a custom dyno-developed tune is typically booked as a full-day slot so we can calibrate and verify properly rather than rush it. Get in touch with your vehicle details and we will sort a suitable time.
