Diesel Emissions Service

DPF & EGR Cleaning & Repair

Blocked DPF, EGR faults or stuck in limp mode? We diagnose, clean, repair and replace diesel emissions hardware at our Oxley and Warana workshops — restoring power, economy and reliability, and keeping your vehicle road-legal.

A diesel particulate filter (DPF) traps soot from the exhaust and burns it off during regeneration. Short trips, a faulty sensor or an underlying EGR or injector problem can stop that happening — the filter blocks, the dash lights up and the engine drops into limp mode. We measure the soot and ash load, clean or force-regenerate the filter where it’s viable (far cheaper than a new filter), and fix the underlying cause so it doesn’t simply block again.

The EGR valve recirculates exhaust gas to lower combustion temperatures, and over time it clogs with carbon — causing rough idle, hesitation, poor economy and fault codes. We clean and refit a serviceable valve, or replace a failed one with a quality part, then clear the faults and confirm the system is operating correctly. We also diagnose AdBlue/SCR warnings on vehicles that use them.

Every job starts on the diagnostic scanner: we read the live soot and ash load and pull the fault history before touching anything, so you’re not paying to clean a filter that actually has a sensor or injector fault behind it. Where the filter is recoverable we force-regenerate and clean it on-car — usually the same day, and far cheaper than replacement (a new OEM DPF for a common ute or 4WD can run $1,500–$4,000+). If it’s genuinely beyond saving we’ll tell you straight and quote your options. You get a firm price after the diagnostic check, before any work goes ahead.

Know The Signs

Signs your DPF or EGR needs attention

If you’re seeing any of these, book a diagnostic before it turns into turbo or injector damage.

  • Amber DPF warning light or a “DPF full” message
  • Engine in limp mode or a sudden loss of power
  • Black smoke under acceleration
  • Noticeably worse fuel economy
  • Failed or constantly repeating regenerations
  • Rough idle, hesitation or surging (often the EGR)
  • Rising oil level or a fuel smell in the oil
  • AdBlue / SCR warning light or countdown

FAQ

DPF & EGR FAQs

Can you clean a blocked DPF instead of replacing it?
In most cases, yes. We assess the soot and ash load, then clean and force-regenerate the DPF where it’s viable — far cheaper than a new filter. If it’s genuinely beyond cleaning, we’ll tell you straight.
How much does DPF cleaning cost?
Cleaning and forced regeneration costs a fraction of a replacement filter, which can run $1,500–$4,000+ on common utes and 4WDs. We give you a firm quote after the diagnostic check, so you know the position before any work goes ahead.
How long does it take?
Most on-car DPF cleaning and forced regenerations are completed the same day. We recommend booking ahead so we can allow time to diagnose the cause before the clean.
What makes a DPF keep blocking?
Usually lots of short trips that never let the filter regenerate, plus an underlying fault — EGR, injectors, sensors or turbo. We find and fix the cause, not just clean the symptom, so it stays clear.
What is the difference between DPF cleaning and regeneration?
Regeneration burns accumulated soot off the filter using heat; cleaning addresses the ash and residue that regeneration alone can’t clear. We use whichever the filter’s load level calls for — and fix the cause so it lasts.
Do you clean or replace EGR valves?
Both. A carbon-clogged EGR valve can often be cleaned and refitted; a failed valve we replace with a quality part. We advise which is right for your engine and budget.
Can I keep driving with a blocked DPF?
It’s not advisable. A blocked DPF puts the engine into limp mode and can lead to expensive turbo, injector or filter damage if ignored. Get it diagnosed early and the fix is usually far cheaper.
Will this clear my limp mode or emission light?
Once we’ve diagnosed and fixed the underlying DPF, EGR or sensor fault, yes — we clear the codes and confirm the system is operating correctly before the vehicle leaves.
Do you keep my emissions system standard?
Yes. This service restores your factory emissions hardware to correct operation and keeps your vehicle road-legal and compliant.
