Keeping your heavy machinery in top condition takes a bit of effort and know-how. To make sure your gear runs smoother for longer and avoids costly breakdowns, follow these simple yet effective maintenance tips:

Regular Inspections

A small issue can turn into a costly breakdown if left unchecked. Make it a habit to inspect your machinery for leaks, wear and loose components. Catching problems early means fewer surprises and less downtime.

Frequent Lubrication

Friction is the enemy of moving parts. Keep everything well-lubed to prevent excessive wear, overheating and breakdowns. Use the right grease and oil for your equipment, and don’t skip on quality.

Keep it clean

Dirt, dust and grime aren’t just cosmetic issues – they can clog filters, damage components, and reduce efficiency. Regularly clean your machinery, especially air filters, cooling systems, and moving parts, to keep it performing at its best.

Stick to maintenance schedules

Manufacturers set service schedules for a reason. Whether it’s oil changes, filter replacements, or full inspections, sticking to a proper maintenance routine keeps your machinery running longer and stronger. Don’t wait for a problem to force you into the workshop – stay ahead of the game.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What types of heavy diesel vehicles and machinery do you service?
We service and repair the full range of heavy diesel, from highway trucks and prime movers to earthmoving and agricultural machinery, marine engines and heavy 4WDs. That covers makes like Kenworth, Iveco, Hino and Isuzu, along with excavators, loaders, tractors and generator sets. Whether it’s a Kenworth 909 needing a top-end rebuild, an Iveco Stralis throwing fault codes, or a fleet of utes due for routine servicing, our technicians have the dealer-level diagnostic tools and heavy-duty experience to handle it. If you’re not sure whether we cover your machine, call our Oxley or Warana workshop and we’ll let you know straight away.
How often should I bring my diesel in for a service?
It depends on how hard the machine works. As a general guide, most heavy diesels are due for a service every 10,000 to 20,000 kilometres or every 6 to 12 months, whichever comes first. Equipment that idles for long stretches, works in dust and heat, tows heavy or runs short trips needs attention more often, because oil and filters break down faster under load. The smarter approach is a schedule built around your duty cycle rather than a fixed number, so you catch wear before it becomes a breakdown. Bring your logbook to our Oxley or Warana workshop and we’ll set a servicing interval that suits how you actually use the vehicle.
Does Willy's use OEM parts for repairs?
Yes. We fit genuine OEM parts wherever they’re available, because they’re made to the exact tolerances your engine and driveline were designed around, which protects reliability and keeps your warranty intact. Where a genuine part is on long backorder or no longer made, we use high-quality equivalent parts from reputable suppliers and tell you exactly what’s going in and why. We won’t fit cheap no-name parts to cut corners, because on a heavy diesel that’s how a small repair turns into a major one. If you have a preference on parts, let us know and we’ll work to it.
How fast can you get my gear back on the job?
We know every hour of downtime costs you, so we work to turn jobs around quickly without cutting corners. The first step is fast, accurate diagnosis with dealer-level scan tools, so we fix the actual fault the first time instead of chasing symptoms. Straightforward servicing and common repairs are often same-day or next-day, while larger jobs like engine or transmission rebuilds take longer because they’re done properly and tested before they leave. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe up front and keep you posted, and where it helps we’ll prioritise the work that gets your truck or machine earning again soonest.
What are the signs my heavy diesel needs attention?
A few warning signs are worth acting on early. Excessive or unusual exhaust smoke, a clear drop in power or fuel economy, hard starting, knocking or rattling, oil or coolant leaks, and any dashboard or fault-code warning all point to something that needs checking. On heavy machinery, also watch for rising operating temperatures, low power under load and longer cranking. The sooner these are diagnosed, the cheaper and simpler the fix usually is, because catching a failing injector, turbo or seal early stops it taking other components with it. If your truck or machine is doing any of these, book it in at our Brisbane or Sunshine Coast workshop for a proper diagnosis.
