No, we recommend a custom ECU remap over a plug-and-play tuner every time. Plug-and-play and piggyback devices sit between the ECU and engine and trick it into adding fuel, which can show a power gain while running outside the factory’s safety guards, risking your injectors, turbo and engine. Should I use diesel fuel additives?
Used sensibly, a quality diesel fuel additive can help, but it’s no substitute for proper servicing and a healthy fuel system. Additives are designed to clean injectors and fuel lines, add lubrication and protect against issues like a bad batch of fuel, water contamination or long-term corrosion. Common types include anti-friction additives, complete fuel-system cleaners, water dissolvers, fuel stabilisers and corrosion inhibitors. They’re a useful top-up, not a fix for worn injectors, poor compression or neglected maintenance. Do I have to be in Queensland to get a tune from you?
No. Our two workshops are in Queensland, Oxley in Brisbane and Warana on the Sunshine Coast, and most ECU tunes are a same-day job, so plenty of vehicles are dropped off in the morning and driven home that afternoon, road-tested and signed off. If you are not close to either workshop, the ECU can come to us instead. You pull the unit, post it up, we tune it and send it back for refitting. That is how we look after regional owners who cannot get the vehicle in. The trade-off is time rather than quality: the turnaround then depends on the post both ways instead of a single workshop day, so it is worth a call before you pull anything apart, because some vehicles are better done in the workshop and we will tell you which.
