It has become well known that the 300 Series Landcruiser loses considerable power when the going gets tough, especially during towing in hot conditions.
The two small side-mounted factory heat exchangers behind the bumper, receive poor airflow. In hot conditions, they struggle to cool down the coolant that feeds into the water-to-air intercooler. This results in higher intake temperatures and power loss.

HPD’s Heat Exchanger is positioned behind the grille to receive good airflow to effectively reduce the temperature of the coolant that passes through the water-to-air intercooler.
This unit, featuring Bar & Plate core and end tanks machined from billet alloy has been proven to reduce coolant temperatures by 20°C. We observed negligible loss of power in hot conditions during testing vehicle, on both dyno and road testing.
The vehicle owner reports that after the HPD Heat Exchanger, Transcooler and Catch Can was fitted, there was not even a hint of power loss towing his caravan up Accommodation Hill, Sturt Highway South Australia, where on a previous trip he experienced noticeable power loss.
